Why did I choose finance as a career
Ever since I was young, I like to play with numbers. I was good at mathematics and was always among one of the highest scorers. I found the subject practical and interesting. Growing up my interest for the subject developed even more. My love for mathematics continued and I opted it as a compulsory subject in the intermediate. However, as a commerce student got the privilege of learning Accounting. Yes, I call it a privilege because accounting changed my perception entirely.
I learned that accounting is even more practical and is used in one’s day-to-day life. I found the different principles and concepts of accounting highly interesting and wanted to have a career in accounting.
When I stepped into grade 12, the practicality of the subject made me brush up whatever we would study in the class on a daily basis. Little did I know that the accounting would become my passion and I would never find it mundane like other subjects. Accounting students find the theoretical part as the most monotonous portion of the subject but with me the situation was completely different. I would love to and still love to read the theoretical part. I believe that theory is a great way to widen our horizon irrespective of the subject. Practical portion after the theoretical is more understandable. Months rolled by and now it was the time for board examination. Due to some personal issue, I could not give ample time for the preparation of accounting examination but still scored in seventies which made me believe that my decision to choose finance as a career would never be wrong.
I have completed my graduation in commerce and again the most interesting subject was accounting in all the three years of my bachelor. In the first year of my graduation core finance i.e., Financial Management was added as one of the subjects. From there I started to like the subject even more. I would read different books on finance, watch videos on different concepts, ask any related doubts to my teachers. I did not realize when unconsciously I made up my mind to go for PGDM (Finance) and in the year 2020 I enrolled myself for the same. I am a student of GNIOT Institute of Management Studies and currently pursuing my PGDM (Finance). In my masters I got to know what all lucrative job opportunities one has after pursuing masters in finance. However, it was not money that drove me to finance, it was my passion and love for the subject. I would love to have a career in taxation, corporate finance, or audit, as these are the most interesting and practical parts of finance. I am in the second year of my PGDM and looking forward to working with a company in finance area. This was my story on why I chose finance as a career. In a nutshell, the three words that describe what finance is to me are: passion, interest, and love.
