INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: IT’S ALL ABOUT EXECUTION, NOT EXPRESSION

Information technology (IT) is all about creating, processing, storage, security and sharing of all types of electronic data by using computers, storage, networking and other physical devices, infrastructure, and procedures. In contrast to the technology utilized for personal or leisure purposes, IT is typically used in the context of corporate activities. Computer based technology and telecommunications systems are both are integral parts of the business usage of IT.

What is the significance of information technology?

As we all know that data is drives the world’s industries. That may be a stretch, but few organizations, big or small, can thrive without the ability to collect the data and transform it into actionable information. Data production, processing, analysis, transmission, storage, and security are all made possible by IT.

IT is commonly connected with the use of technology to solve business problems. As a result, the IT workforce is focused on advanced technologies such as hardware systems, operating systems, and application software. IT expertise is required to determine the hardware and software components used to optimize a specific business process. IT professionals work with various technologies, including server operating systems, communications hardware and software, and apps.

Applications of IT in Different sectors:

1. IT in Healthcare

  • In the field of medicine, information technology has ushered in dramatic advances.
  • Physicians can deliver more accurate therapy to patients using new procedures, technologies, and equipment produced by IT for this specific profession.

2. IT in Government

  • IT increases the quality of government service by allowing citizens to deal with the government in a faster and more comfortable manner.
  • To obtain government services, IT replaced manual and paper-based operations.
  • It also relieved the stress of having to wait in line.

3. IT in Railways

  • The railway is a significant organization that uses computers successfully.
  • Computers keep track of all trains that run daily or weekly.
  • Passengers can purchase tickets from the comfort of their own homes.
  • Passengers can also use the internet system to cancel their tickets.
  • Passengers have access to all rail schedules.

4. IT in Supply Chain Management

  • In Supply Chain Management (SCM), the exponential growth of Information Technology (IT) is playing a critical role in optimizing supply chain network decisions own for achieving organizational competitiveness, improving higher service levels.
  • IT in SCM is also necessary to achieve integration and good information sharing within and beyond organizations. With the help of rapid changes in technology and IT applications such as Electronic Data Exchange (EDI), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Bar Code, Electronic Commerce, Decision Support system, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package, and others, businesses are moving towards a virtual supply chain.

5. IT in Education

  • Access to a Wide Range of Educational Resources: It is now possible to get academic knowledge at any time thanks to information technology. Information technology is used by both students and teachers to acquire and exchange educational materials.
  • Quick Access to Educational Info: IT allows for faster information transfer and distribution. Computers and emerging technology, such as mobile phone applications, enable students to access academic data conveniently. IT professionals have created educational applications that allow pupils to access material quickly.
  • Use of Audio-Visual: Students become bored in this education method compared to text and chalkboard notes. People dislike reading literature for extended periods because it bores them, so audio-visual technology in education allows pupils to appreciate their learning. Because some of these visuals are interesting and look familiar to a student, visual illustration employing projectors helps students understand the subject better. Graphic drawings are more accessible for our brains to remember than words.

6. IT in Banking and Finance

  • IT improves and speeds up financial transactions.
  • Cashless transactions have been implemented.
  • Online shopping and payments are now possible.
  • Banking is integrated into digital devices (personal computers, smartphones, and tablets).
  • Internet banking has now become a reality.

Advantages of IT:

  • IT aids in the efficient and effective management, manipulation, storage, retrieval, sharing/communicating, and transmission of minor and ample amounts of information/data.
  • Work that was once done manually can now be done quickly and easily with the aid of computers.
  • There is no necessity to keep paper files because all vital documents may be saved on a computer and accessible quickly.
  • Globalization has been significantly aided by better and faster online communication, which has helped industries and enterprises worldwide.
  • Storing and protecting information- Virtual vaults and security systems represent the benefits and limitations of information technology. Information technology can defeat the hacking of technical data and viruses.
  • Cost-effective- Many organizations have been more efficient due to internet business operations, and their customer list has grown at a lower cost. Information technology has allowed for clutter-free working circumstances and a global client list.

In this way, information technology is using its most significant advantage to revolutionize the world. It makes exchanging information much easier, faster, cheaper, and more pleasant. In a nutshell, from all the above points we can understand that IT is all about data, facts its execution though machine processing , using algorithms and deriving useful information from this raw data and their is no scope of expression’s like empathy, thinking, informal communication , disgust, fear and joy in it. This means if you have input incorrect data in the system for processing then you will get “garbage in and garbage out”. On the other hand if the data input is correct then you will have correct analysis and report at the end of your data processing…

So! IT is all about execution and not impression….
